    Spring

Looks like the comp spring is missing and a late spring is stuck on the old follower rod.

I was also wondering about the Hand Guard clip slot. It looks as if it is cut to low and maybe all the scuffing is from trying to get it to catch.

Yes we all would love to see another Gas Trap come out of the wood work Rick Bicon

Still, the sum total of the original parts will be staggering...once determined.

Yes, there's definitely some later parts in there...but still...it's a gastrap.

The gas trap barrel on s/n 48304 markings D-28286 heat lot C-I-2-A are correct for other gas trap rifles from the same period as noted below:

Jack, A lot of your parts such as the trigger housing, safety, op rod rev 3 and bolt - would indicate parts from the late 1941 period while the handguards could be later WW2. the stock was changed too and a long pinion for the lock bar was added. This is almost like a individual changed these parts because a military rebuild would have included a new gas port barrel and cylinder. If you have time, it would be interesting to know the condition of the bore ?

A restoration of this rifle back to the correct parts would be very expensive with the key parts being a no trap SA SPG stock with two equal size holes in the butt, the revision 1 uncut operating rod and comp/keystone springs with follower rod. the front handguard with the ferrule with lip is both expensive and difficult to find. It is interesting how so many "rare" parts are missing. If the bore is shot-out and in poor condition that might explain why those rare parts are missing ? difficult to say for sure. Robert

Bore is in excellent shape. Gun operates and shoots flawlessly. I will have to do some more research on the other items you mentioned as I am not an expert on the parts you specified. Thanks for your help, very much appreciated. Jack

Just a question on what you meant by 2 equal size holes in the stock? Didn't think I had any cuts in the operating rod and front ferule looked good too. Wow I have some things to learn I guess. What am I missing here? thanks again, jack
