    Fazakerley made reciever

    Afternoon all,

Spotted this on my afternoon trawl across the tinterweb

Deactivated British Manufactured SLR L1A1 Rifle. - Modern Deactivated Guns - Deactivated Guns

An Enfield 1959 manufactured L1A1, with an F59 marked receiver (second pic in).

Thats a first for me, I know Faz parts were sent to BSA and Enfield when the factory closed in 1960, from my experience it seems to be mainly cocking handles, triggers and other small parts, its the first F marked Receiver I have seen, must be quite rare, they couldn't have made many??

The 5 of the F59 has been over-engraved. But that aside, Fazakerley did manufacture all of the parts but it was like pulling teeth. They didn't ever get to manufacture complete rifles though. I would think that these parts were directed to Enfield for completion (and correction too ......) I didn't think that they were still making L1A1 parts that late as by then but they clearly were. By then the MoS and the old War Office had had a gutfull and transferred the L1A1 contract to reliable BSA and the plant and machinery that was strike bound, to Lithgowicon.

F marked bodies were also sent to Lithgow as you would occasionally see them on Lithgow rifles...., especially Fazakerley TMH's

BSA had floor space as they'd cleared out the No4 plant that was in care and maintenance for a contractual 10 years until 1955.

Since these have been "deactivated", can they be imported to the US? Direct to end users w/o need for an FFL?

    In a word Russ, NO.

The issue here is that they still have the original receiver and being sear cut, it is still regarded as a Machine gun, despite the fact that the working parts have been welded solid!

I think you would still need to chop it to bits to import it, but nothing of value could be rescued for this example, even the flash eliminator is pinned and welded in place!

This is a UKicon only wall hanger.....

Too bad, they had a lot of fairly affordable "wall art" on the page!

Heard that they were still FTR-ing Mk5 Sten guns on MoS/Crown Agents contracts then too. Crown Agents were one of these QUANGO's and their work was usually government sales stuff. Known as Defence Sales now.

I put a F59 or F60 cocking handle on my 1966 Enfield SLR clone. After reading Peter's telling of Fazakerley's effective corporate suicide (at the height of the Cold War, no less), I just had to do it!
