    Hi guys,

There was no requirement for sporterised No.1's during the early years of precision alloy, so it can't be military; no provision for a bayonet, &c., &c., &c.

If a few such rifles are noted in Canadaicon in various provinces, it was likely offered by some gunshop or gun business as an alternative to cutting your rifle down or chopping up a good fore-end to fit it. Therefore, the barreled action and maybe the butt too are not necessarily relevant to the item as a whole.

    Anyway, enough waffle for now,

    Ian

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. That fore end looks like some 15 year old boy's high school metal shop project. Facilities to cast aluminium and drill the holes? Everything (including tutorial assistance) would be there to use for the asking.

Look at the photos just forward of the front trigger guard screw and it's a sandwich of alloy/wood/alloy. But that aside, not quite up to the usual standard of work I saw from the trials and development workshop
