Was there a transit chest for the Sterling SMG?

The only ones I know of were for the silenced Mk5's that were going to Australia and NZ but they were plywood, probably one way trip jobs

Does the factory cardboard box for a MK III count?

David was flabbergasted, to say the least, and commented that so far as he could remember that everything in the box and paperwork was exactly as he remembered back then. He even recognized the handwriting on one of the inspections tags!
We're still trying to get the exact story of who precisely caused that small batch of guns to make it over here, way back then. The current story being told is certainly embellished, to say the least.

The story told to me by a bloke in town who got one the Mk3’s from Ruben is the guns were sent from Sterling to Colt. Supposedly Colt was discussing building the guns under license. When Colt recently fell on hard times they started selling off stuff and that’s how the Mk3s came on the market.

Island accuracy in Tassie makes the No. 4 T chests but they are $500 smackers + freight, also if you want to see what happens when a munitions ship blows up google the 1917 Halifax disaster in Canada WWI unbelievable tragedy.

ATS raises a very interesting querie here regarding Bren chests - or any chests really........... If you break up a totally rotten Bren chest, saving only the useful internal bits, the hardware and the end handles then make up another using all these parts and a new outer wood casing is this fakery or restoration or just plain good housekeeping as my old mum used to say? I say just plain and simple good housekeeping of course, just as we would send a split/broken chest (or a zillion other things in service) to the Carpenters shop (or any of the many other repair shops in the A&G section of a large workshop).
I suppose you could consider just leaving it 'original' but looking totally crap - but the originality fiends might like to ponder the fact that it didn't leave Weedon like that!
