Yep…., that's the one Gil! Thanks for that. We wanted certain things locked down so as to be tamper/squaddie proof (although that was going to be done at the ABRO on acceptance), the standard grat pattern and glass ocular and OG lenses. VERY good telescope but it was said that the order wasn't large enough for them to alter the whole caboodle.

Makes me wonder if the Bushnell would fit into the odd bracket too

That's an important point about these new brackets; they greatly increase the versatility of the L42. The rifles are tack drivers let down by the scope (that was good in its time)....

They'll also make the No4(T) a lot more user friendly for those with 'tired' eyes!

Surely not with telescopes that have been through me DRP!!!!!!!!! Just joking, but the telescope optics are past their sell-by date. However, the fact remains that when you subject them to the light transmission test, most of them really do pass with flying colours. Maybe it's the old engineer in me that baulks at the thought of clamping down rings on an alloy tube that can (and will….) distort worries me. It was a fault on the L13 tube on the L96 brackets where the snipers would improve the hex bolt torque settings put there by the idiots in the Instrument or Armourers shops. Not so with the old fashioned taper-lock screws on the original bracket. A physical impossibility to over tighten them. Used in many pre and immediate post war weapon applications such as the Boys and 3inch mortars etc etc.

Sorry to ramble on a bit

I thought the L13 tubes and objective housing are steel with only the added ocular housing being alloy?

Should have made that a bit clearer but they would still clamp down hard on the tube and slightly crush it. But that said, the little L13 tele did all that was asked of it - albeit at an eye watering price

Hmm, yes I have seen then a tad distorted, and the alloy mounts very distorted too
