A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Mark,

I was about to correct either you or your source. There was no 60th I.D. in WWII, but I saw in your post you got it right with the 60th Infantry REGIMENT. The 60th was assigned to the 9th I.D. and saw combat from North Africa until the end of the war.

Good picture. Looks like the Sherman has that hedgerow-busting thingy they used to break out of the bocage.

I hope you keep posting pictures Mark - I really do appreciate them.
Don't blame me - I voted for Palin.

Relative served with the 60th Regiment

My grandfathers nephew served in the 60th Infantry Regiment and was killed shortly after D-Day. Did a records request but it appears his service record was one of the many that burned in the St. Louis fire back in the 70's. Family never new exactly what was in his service record or what happened.

He is buried at the cemetary in Normandy but while researching information, it appears that ither they mispelled his last name or dont have it on the electroni records correctly (wont know until I can get a picture of the grave marker. His name was Lee Roy Gillilian, PFC and we know he was awarded a Purple Heart. Thanks for posting the picture, sadly most of the soldiers in the picture later bacame casualities, the 60th Regiment saw a lot of combat including the Hurtgen forrest before the end of the war.
