    Chassepot Cartridge Modification 3

Good Afternoon. Just finished making rounds for tomorrow's day at the range. Used 3" Gummed Kraft paper to great success. No more cutting squares with straight edge, sharp knives, and ruler marks. Now I just roll out the correct width and rip.

Sealing is easy with a little sponge and I now can complete the cartridge with no Super Glue and just one cut with the scissors. Using my previous modifications 1 and 2 along with the Kraft paper saves much time and some money. It also looks like I won't need any more stitches from those damned sharp blades.

Paper also worked on the '62 Dreyse. Range report tomorrow.

    Randy

    Range Report for Kraft Paper

Good Afternoon. Cartridge ignited and the Chassepot shot very well. I did have a significant amount of paper left in the chamber. I know some folks use fire-retardant to enable them to remove the paper while some use Nitrated paper to consume the paper and blow it out the barrel. Not sure where I stand as this is only the second round with consistent ignitions.

Will be Nitrating this paper for the next series of test and see how much is consumed/left. Randy

Kraft Paper: To Nitrate or Not

Good Evening. Kraft paper worked well after having been nitrated. I had very little residue after each ignition and the paper's stiffness was a plus. Will go with Kraft Paper for speed and ease of use along with light nitrating following rolling of the cartridges. Randy
