L1A1 quetsions

I'm used to Lee enfields but just found an L1A1 with familiar Enfield Numbers and Trilux sight still in place. Where on an L1A1 do the numbers have to match and what should I be looking for before purchasing?

Main body, the trigger mech housing, the breech block and the BB-carrier. As for what should you be looking for when purchasing. How long have you got?

LOL - not that long really - if there are any obvious places to look for issues I'd like to hear them. However an Enfield made L1A1 will sit nicely alongside my L42A1 and brings me nicely up to Falkands era in terms of Enfield made battle rifles and Sniper rifles. Was the black plastic furniture interchangeable with wooden furniture throughout the life of these rifles or was all the wood changed out for plastic at one point?

Wood was interchangeable with plastic and changed when it needed doing on a rolling basis. Officially, you COULD just change the defective part, say, a wood butt for a plastic but still have wood handguards and pistol grip but it never happened like that. It was always a complete change for aesthetic reasons. You could only change both L and R handguards too.

I have a sneaky picture taken inside an Armoury with rows of L1A1's with old style handguards, wrapped style and plastics all alongside each other.

Coincidentally, it also shows L4A4 Brens with modified butt plates that because of the modification, won't sit in the butt recesses in the racks!
