    Latest Addition - RC Kar98k bcd 43

I'm not really into Mausers (I'm more of a Mosin guy) but a few nights ago I was offered to buy a Mauser for a reasonably fairish price. Upon having a look at it I decided to scoop it up seeing as it was a Russianicon Capture and kinda, sorta fitted into the Soviet collection.

Made by Gustloff in 1943 (well, the barrelled receiver and sight anyway), swastikas have been pinged, but there's no 'X' on it. Typical hodge-podge of parts - the only two parts that are original matching to each other are the stock and buttplate. The buttplate has a Genschow(?) Depot marking on it.

The bore has promise - it isn't perfect but has strong rifling with minor pitting (I hate the term 'frosting' - its minor pitting).

I took the rifle to the range for a shoot yesterday, but the weather prevented me from doing anything serious with it. I was able to hit a steel plate from standing at 100m six times from 15 shots of 1954 Yugoslavian Ball. I'll give it a decent go next weekend.

Luckily the weather was better (only just) this weekend than last, and I was able to run a few rounds through my RC 98k.

All shooting done from a bench at 100m.

Shooting two different types of ammo - Commercial Czechicon S&B 196grn SP and 1954 Yugoslavian Ball.

...and some results. First up, the S&B....

    ..and the Yugoicon..

The rifle showed a definite preference for the S&B (not surprisingly) and the Yugo stuff was pretty inconsistent.

The S&B kicks like a mule, whereas the Yugo is relatively sedate.

I have some dies on the way from the US and look forward to cooking up some loads for the rifle.
