Any South African markings on the rifle, such as a broad arrow or a diamond inside a U?

Or South African Constabulary Sisters my main man........ I always thought that the SA Police were controversially called the BRITISH South African Police - or the BSAP

Peter, BSAP were Rhodesian - the enforcers for Cecil Rhodes' "Britishicon South Africa Company".
There never was a "British South Africa"; initially South Africa was the 4 provinces (Natal, Cape, Orange Free State, Transvaal) and then confederated 1910-1961 into the Union of South Africa, and since 1961 the Republic of SA.

Brian, South African Constabulary would be a distinct possibility... if only one could explain the second S.

    SACS butt Disc

Not on a rifle unfortunately but here is a similar one from my collection.
The 6 prefix may help or confuse identification?Attachment 64666
