    MAS 36 Windage Correction

I've been messing around with my recently acquired post-war MAS 36 which looks un-issued. It groups nicely despite the agricultural trigger and obelisk-like front sight post. The only problem was that the rifle was grouping 4 MoA left. Luckily, I found 1886lebel's excellent post on this forum (Common questions regarding Modèle 1936's ?) which indicated I needed a D8 rear sight leaf to pull the group over. Well I couldn't find a D8, so settled for a rather battered D4 example (insufficient correction) and modified it by drilling out the aperture and threading the hole to accept a short length of M6 bolt, itself drilled with an offset aperture. At the range I rotated the eccentric threaded insert until I got the group as close to center as possible. I ended up with the insert at 3 O'Clock, the eccentricity maxed out and the group pretty much "within tolerance". Once home I trimmed the front and rear faces, fixed the insert in place with some thread lock and finished with some cold blue. If I had been willing to drill the original rear sight it wouldn't have cost me anything apart from a little time. I'll be using this rifle at my clubs next 200 yd match. Good times!
