Remington M870 8-shot shotgun

When I recently purchased a M870 "home defense" 8-shot shotgun, I was disappointed it did not come with a front sling swivel stud. On posting on CSP forum, another poster (thanks Griffith) recommended a TacStar barrel-magazine tube clamp (part #634887) from MidwayUSA, which I did place on order.
However, the shotgun came with an attachment location on the installed clamp. After emailing and calling Remington, I lerned the facotry studs weren't installed on all "home defense" models and that I'd have to order another clamp, as the stud had to be pressed-fit with professional equipment.
But that perked my inbterest; surely there must be a stud somewhere which would screw into the existing location. Nothing at Midway (that I found), but did find studs at Brownells.
Brownells has Uncle Mikes parts: 10-32x1/4 Dome Stud (pack of 12 only), plus 10-32 Hex Nuts (pack of 12 only), both blued, which fit the installation clamp (when used with a small brass washer as filler). Seems to work fine.
Hope this will help someone else, just looking to have a utilitary carry sling and not require the tactical type. Semper Fi.

Remington sells for $31 the original military support bracket which has a stud for a swivel on the bottom. The screw for the clamp is extra and also has to be ordered. That stud is on the bottom, the same as it comes on the "870 Police" model shotguns.

for your reply. As stated in my thread, your suggestion about Remington selling a clamp with swivel stud attached, was what I learned in calling them (at a cost of $30+, plus S & H costs). However, I wanted to use the clamp which was supplied with my shotgun, thus my quest for a swivel-stud which I could attach to it. My posting was merely an attempt to help someone else is similar circumstances. Thanks for your reply in any case. Semper Fi.

Uncle Mikes makes a swivel set for the 870 that is near identical to the Remington factory but it has an improvement I like... the screw that holds the bracket to the barrel has a nut to secure it instead of just a threaded hole in the bracket.

The Uncle Mikes product number is QD 115UPS. The only on-line distributor I have found for them is Security and Safety Supply. They sell the set for $17.95, but it comes with 1" detachable swivels. This is their site:

that the set comes with the stud separate from the bracket and, if you prefer, you can just install the stud on your existing factory bracket. It is not pressed in, it is installed with a clip.

If you use Blue Loc-tite you won't need the nut. The red loc-tite is more permanent.

for your repsonse. Took me awhile, to find the part you were referring to, but did eventually. Uncle Mike's QD 115UPS is very much like the Lyman's "Tac-Star" sling swivel assembly I was referring to, but again, this would be another attachment to the existing factory attachment already on the M870 8-shot shotgun. That's why I decided on purchasing the sling-swivel studs and made use of that existing attachment. It works fine, plus for the same price almost, I now have 11 replacement studs and nuts. Well Gents:
as a follow-up to my orginal thread, I felt it would be beneficial to detail my quest for a proper utility-type sling for my new Remington Model 870 8-shot "home defense" shotgun.
As the front sling swivel is positioned near the front of the barrel and extension tube, the swivels are placed about 33-34 inches apart; too long for the Uncle Mike's "utility sling" which is only 48" long.
Tried an M1/M14 sling and it seemed to be just long enough, but was olive-drab/OD green color. As the weapon is black oxide color and the stock is black synthetic, I wanted a black M1/M14 type sling.
The question of where to find one was answered at Numrich GPC. They have newly manufactured M1/M14 slings, black, item # 984970, for $8.35 each. If you purchase three or more, they're $7.10 each, which is a significant savings (and with the shipping cost of $6.95, comes to $28.25 for three). Who knows, you might get another shotgun or a black M1 or M14(???).
