Saginaw SG used a very distinctive, in my opinion, P proof. It's one of the larger P's used, kind of like the second type larger Underwood barrel proof. Also, I would look at the barrel flat for tool marks to see if there's any evidence of that regarding a potential barrel change out, which it sounds like a distinct possibility in your case.

Jim. Please forgive me for correcting you. The Carbine Club did not close, we went to an online format. If you click the link you posted you will see much great information on carbines and explanations of the parts and differences. If you look to the left side menu where you will see "forum" in that forum there is a section "Newsworthy Items" where we are posting the current newsletters currently Jan 2016 and March 2016 items. In that section you will see the COMs now called Featured Carbines.
All new items posted have a link to open a PDF where you can save or print.
The reason we feel this would be a better format is that you can now post below the article and have an open discussion on the items. This is a far better medium for sharing information and helping research on parts.

Your not correcting me. The Carbine Club as some of us knew it, has closed it's doors after 39 years. Some prefer the new format, others maybe not so much. For our nostalgic weapon I don't find it as much fun on line. I'm sure the younger crowd who grew up with a computer hooked to their arms do.
All personal perspective I guess.
