A disaster averted
Today I brought some Hornady 160gn RN for my 6.5 x 284 for a shooting trip planned to thin the ranks of eee awws and ships of the desert. (I have used them before in my rifle)
Anyway I grabbed a packet that said Carcano only (wait) hmmmm I said I asked the GS if I could look at the ADI powder booklet to double check, yep there it was Hornady 160gn RN AR 2217 50 ~55 grains OAL 2.980"no worries as I had loaded a few at home from an old packed I had.
So I got to thinking and thought I will check the packet (I was home now 30klms from the GS) ahhh looky here .268" not .264".
So I rang the GS and talked to them swapped it out for another packet of 168gn 308 A Max but had I not looked at the packet I may have had a disaster, that's if they fitted in the neck of a re-sized case.
Anyway learned a good lesson to read the label correctly, Oh yes! I was having a blonde day as I picked up a packet of Hornady Moly coated 308 as well and had to swap that out to, can you believe I had just got the all clear from my optometrist about my needing new glasses! geez some days are just like that...........

Cinders, we are all relieved you are okay. Your story is compelling, and has made me think all day. Some other stories on this site are have not had a 'happy' ending -- while I'm not a reloader (it's more complex than I want to handle), I've come to recognize the value of simplicity of ammunition -- which is a major safety issue.
While reloading is a good thing for some, I'm sticking with a collection of guns that are all shootable with standard ammo (.22, .32, 9mm, 30-30, .303, .308, .30 carbine, .45ACP) each of which wouldn't be easily confused with another round. I'm not saying this is the right decision for everyone, but having some simple standard ammo does have some advantages.
