    Mosin Nagant M1907 Carbine Christmas

I've had this very rare M1907 Carbine for many years. It came to me in a sportered stock, and I had resigned myself to the near reality that it would never be fitted to a full stock. Last fall, I even bought a stock reproduction, but I wasn't thrilled with the results.

But through a Christmas Miracle this December, a full original stock and handguard appeared on the Gunboards Collector's Forum as a $20 gun show find. Following some fair negotiations with the owner, the stock made it's way from Oklahoma to Maine. Perfect fit, too.

This Holiday morning, the weather finally brightened enough to snap some pictures of the 1913 Izhevsk. The stock is a fantastic gift to the gun, and worth sharing.

Some pics. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas to all!

Wow, had to pull out a reference book for this one, and to me it does look correct. Excellent carbine, likely the rarest of all the Mosin Nagants (possibly with the exemption of the M1927 Finnishicon Carbines).

    Thank you.

There would be a few Mosin Nagant models which could be considered rarer than the M1907, but not many. For Russianicon guns, a St. Petersburg Cavalry Carbine comes to mind.

I do have two Mosin Nagants which would be less common than the M1907. One is a Finnishicon P-28 and, to my knowledge, is the only one ever recorded. Another is a 1913 M91 Kholodovskii Prototype, of which only 288 units were ever produced. The four other examples which I can find reference are all in museums.

The P-28 isn't much to look at. Sadly, Bubba got to the only example known - with a hacksaw.

But the Kholodovskii is whole, and in excellent relic condition. It's probably best to take a few minutes and read up on a very interesting time in Pre-WWI Imperial Russianicon small arms history.
