Care To Share Your Earliest Mk. 1/2 or 1/3 ?

Since the Mk.2 didn't appear until April of 1949, how early afterwards do you think the Mk. 1/2 and 1/3 started?

    Here is my earliest one...

I had a mk1/2 redated 1952. When I took the trigger guard off the trigger came out with it? There were no bosses brazed on the receiver? Did someone cut corners or did someone try and un-upgrade it? I bought it in the early 90s, and it was my first LE (it brought on the sickness, because now I have a bushel). I got rid of it because it did wierd things to case shoulders.

Very nice, Lance! 50' was the earliest I've seen but I have to say that I hadn't considered even looking purposely for anything earlier. Mr. Skennertonicon mentions March 31, 1949 as the official introduction for the 1/3 and 1/2, which is the same date for the Mk.2 introduction.

I don't recall seeing any 1/2, 1/3 rifles with a "month" associated with the upgrade date and if that is the case, it will be impossible to know how early in 49' they were being done.

Spike, my own No4 Mk1/2 is dated 10/49. There are no FTR markings on it, and I'm pretty sure it was a brand new, un-issued No4 Mk1 before it became a brand new, un-issued No4 Mk1/2.
It is no longer brand new, as I immediately de-greased it and took it shooting when I got hold of it. (approx 1996/7)
    Here's a pic.

    Have a F(FTR) 49

Savage converted to No4 MK 1/3

later converted to a .22 cal Canadianicon style No 7, using pretty much all Canadian parts but the action. Wood is even Canadian, converted to be No 4 MK I/3.
