It could be that the previous owner has filled it with clear paraffin. The filler washer is a small fibre one which you will be able to acquire reasonably easily.

I will make no comment on the radium in the bowl and swinging card etc etc except to suggest you handle with latex gloves and just brush it clean with your sable hair brush you used to clean out the bowl. You clearly need some assembly guidance. I will PM you.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Good Evening All

I am gradually getting all the items I need to finish the Compass.Painting the body I have been given two options, one is Barbeque paint and the other is Humbrol Enamel (black satin.).The ring with the eight screws was painted white, I have removed the paint and expected to find a Bright tinned surface, but all I found was the Brass surface.I can repaint a white colour, can anyone suggest a alternative finish, bearing in mind that the ring still has the Radium at the North section of the ring.On the index ring the Radium(rectangular section) is not present there fore can I paint this small area with white paint or as above a alternative.

    Thank you

    Michael

    Hi
As I am collecting Compasses, I have invested in a DP 66 Polish Geiger counter, which will double as a Vintage piece of Army kit.I will enclose a couple of photo's.

I made the same mistake of cleaning up the ring too. I spray painted mine silver.
