Another newbie question
I am still going through all the posts on this site. So, if this question has already been addressed I have not found it yet.
What is the little 'loop/ 'U' shaped' thing on the trigger housing (in front of the mag) for?
Thanks

The short answer, for those not wanting to follow the link, is that when the MLE was first introduced, the magazines were attached to the rifle via a small chain. One end was attached to the rifle, the other attached to that small metal loop. Later on, the loop was used to help fasten canvas action covers to the rifle.
