Another goodie from the ''junk room''.

Had this for several months now, almost forgot I owned it. Been finding some pretty neat items in the ''junk room'' at my buddy's pawn shop lately. In the last 8 or 9 months I've picked up a Brazilian icon

M1917 S&W, a nice '44 Ithaca 1911a1, and now this. An un-messed about with Mk.1 w/matching #'s and original finish has eluded me for ages. Able to find the * and ** variants fairly easy but they don't interest me nearly as much. Only thing out of place is the early Mk.1* grips. No bother, they fit my big hands and feel quite nice.

I can't quite understand the stamped markings. If RTC is Royal Tank Corps then my understanding is that Tank/Cavalry regiments are divided into Squadrons - that's be Sqn. But if the Tank Corps was divided down into Battalions then that's make sense. Someone will simplify it but RTC is Royal Tank Corps prior to it being a tank REGIMENT as in C Squadron, 6th Royal Tank Regiment

Definitley it belonged to the 8th Bataillon Royal Tank Corps.
8.RTC was formed in 1938 as preperation for war.
In 1939 the RTC was renamed into Royal Tank Regiment and 8.RTC became 8 RTR.

8 RTR fought in North Africa and Italy icon

1960 amalgamated with 5RTR.
