    Finnish M39 Sako

    hello all,
bought one of those M39 that classic firearms was selling... received a 1944 Sako with a Civil Guard stock... at the time i thought it was cosmolineicon all over but i guess it was pinetar all over... anyway at first i thought i got took but the more i cleaned an shot a few times i like the rifle very much...

so my question is was i took or is it a nice piece? also can anyone tell me about the civil guard stock?

No doubting it's an M39 so you didn't get took there.
Don't Civil Guard stocks have an S stamped on the right side of the butt? You don't show any stamps in your pics.

Finnishicon Guard rifles are considered more desirable by collectors as they are less common. The condition of yours looks a little on the rough side based on the photo of the butt stock but that might clean up. is that a crack?

    It's a common feature on the 39's.

Can't really tell but it has the shape of the Civil Guard cartouche. If I where betting I'd say your good. Classic isn't known for ripping people off.

I think mine is solid. I don't want to dig it out of the safe to check. Looked at my photos and it doesn't appear to be spliced. I know they spliced the forends, didn't know about the butts.

yeah thats why i freak out when i first got it... looked rough an looked like it had a crack in the stock... i took the butt plate off an it not a crack its like a tung a groove fitted and i guess and over the years the one side started to expand... it seams to be solid ive shot probably close to 150 to 200 rds through with no problem...

    here more pics...

thanks for all your responses...Attachment 68936

Here's a pic pulled off Goggle, down near the bottom. I'd say your good. It doesn't look fake.
