    Spanish FR-8, date clarification?

    Hello,

I've read days worth of posts regarding my new [to me] Spanish FR-8, with a La Coruna 1955 crest/name/date on the top of the receiver.

What I am unclear about is if this is the date of the original production of the actual receiver, or if it is the date of the conversion of the Spanish M1943 rifle.

It seems that it is the actual manufacture date, with barrel conversions happening later, but I am not clear on this.

Lastly, IF this is a 1955 manufacture date, is there any consensus regarding if this makes the steel more 'suspect', or if they had worked out their steel quality concerns yet?

    Thanks in advance

The date is the original 1943 Mauser date. Most FR-8's will be mid to late 50's as they selected the best to convert. Nothing wrong with the steel in these. The "suspect" rifles are the FR-7's and that's because they are based on the small ring action not originally rated for the pressures of 7.62.
