Thanks, guys. After SEVEN prior ones, it is REALLY easy! LOL. I thought of stripping and refinishing the furniture, but decided against it. I don't want a safe queen. I refinished my last wood set Russianicon red (it was actually Russian wood furniture), and it was so pretty, I could stand to see it nicked. This one, I can toss in the back of the truck, or bang around in the woods, and it won't bother me a bit. Pretty weapons are nice, but I wanted a REAL Kalashnikov! Thanks Mikhail!

Haha, Nothing for awhile....Between VA taking away money they paid my wife for taking care of my disabled brother (He died the end of the month, so they took back the care money from the the month before-retroactively!) and me having shoulder surgery on the 1st of April and going to miss work, I had to liquidate a couple ARs I had.

Bernie, I hope and pray your doing better after loosing your Brother I'm really sorry for your lost. I know what your going through. I was looking at the first pictures and when you changed it did you have to cut a slot to move the trigger ?I noticed it the other day, but I saw only one on my Saiga, so you moved it and did the whole revamp of your Saiga ? It looks good it looks like it was when you showed me about a year and half ago, but I think those were just pictures you had when you converted it. Nice Job Saiga Master. I Saw a video of a guy who has a Saiga just like the Russianicon Saiga AK I bougnt that you said if you want one to buy this one and he just changed the wood, but what do you use to protect the gas tube before the wood starts he didn't cover that part in his video , but I do see a cover. Will I need one IF I decide to do it ? But I got use to the way mine is setup and the way it was when I bought it. I think I'll just buy another brand with some nice Wood on it and just keep my Saiga the way it is. I know for sure you love doing this and I'm sure your going to find some other way to change it again.....it's in your Blood ....Hahaha

I took your advice and bought that Really Nice SGM Tactical 3 side Rail Forend and THANK YOU for the hook up and just added the Beryl Style Top mount for Optics that sits over the Cover and that's all except for the Optics. I bought that late model Eotech since the New model came out and it's cheaper. Thank You for the ideas you gave me to make it a better Shooter. But if it wasn't for you it would just be the same that everyone bought for GunNet. Thanks for helping me Bernie.

Note: I wrote this just to Thank You for All the help being a First Time owner. I had one or 2 before, but traded them right away. I still have my M85 Zastava .223/5.56 AK Style for fun. I didn't want to seem I trying to take away anything from your Very Nice Post, but we been busy and haven't been able to keep contact and just wanted to let you know I appreciate everything you did for me when you saw I was buying one. So Thanks Bernie.

    Frank

On Saigas in sporting configuration, the holes for the standardx trigger and pistol grip nut are in the receiver, but they cover it with the awful plate that moves the trigger guard to the rear. For California, the stock Saiga makes sense, but in sporter configuration, it is too long for a home defense carbine. The kydex paddle on the grip prevents havining a "pistol style grasp" on the weapon, so it is Californication legal.

I got a standard AKM cleaning rod from Desert Fox, since the Saiga came with a 20" smaller diameter rod. I have an AKM cleaning kit for the buttstock. The natural angle of the hole for the cleaning rod through the front handguard is at an upward towards the muzzle angle. This presses the muzzle end of the cleaning rod up against the barrel with some tension, and even under recoil, it hits the edge of the crush washer to keep it from moving any farther forward.
