Book assistance
I am looking for some help for a new book that I am working on. Specifically, I need good quality, high-resolution, colour photos of the small arms used by Canadians between 1939 and 1945: No.1, P17, No.4, S&W M&P, Stens, Thompsons, Brens, mortars..., the whole gamut. Also looking for photos of the ancillaries for each of these. Must be Canadian where applicable.
If you wish to contribute please e-mail me off-line at clive@servicepub.com. Full photo credit for any images selected.
Thnx,
Clive

Depending on how much effort you are anticipating, if you are GOOD with a camera (and lighting) and can use software like "Photoshop", it may be better to find the "subjects" and photograph them yourself. DIY should ensure a consistency of quality and style in the illustrations.
Historical / "action" shots of the goodies in action should be available through War Memorials / National archives and unit historical groups.
If you shoot your own, the copyright on the pictures is ALSO yours. (don't forget to publish credits for the items in the photos, unless the "owners' do NOT wish to be identified, for "insurance / security" reasons.
It is somewhat easier these days to assemble a book ready for proof-reading and printing. The trick is to get paid for your work and to not end up on the "remainders" table with all of the coffee-table glossies and dodgy "tuppenny-dreadful" novels.
Back in the "good old days", photography was as much "chemistry" as it was "art". Preparing the "galleys" of text involved a LOT of careful typing and manual formatting before even considering page layouts and paste-ups.
DO NOT be discouraged, the end product is still much the same as it was in the days of Gutenberg and Caxton.
Do you have a copy of "The Military Arms of Canada", by the "Upper Canada Historical Arms Society"?
This was published in 1963 by "Museum Restoration Service", Ottowa, in 1963. It comprises 47 pages with reasonably good photos of long-arms and sidearms.
It sold originally for the tidy sum of $1.50 Canadian.

Thank you for your comments to date. I am no stranger to this type of project as I have written a dozen books already, including "Without Warning" on Canadian sniper equipment, "Canadian Military Handguns, 1855-1985" and "Inglis Diamond" on the Canadian-made 9-mm High-Power.
I also run Service Publications and, as a publisher, have published over 150 titles over the course of the past 25 years. Service Publications
