I would take the M2 Carbine over the current M4 unit. Not only can I shoot it better, but I wouldn't likely be firing at targets more than 200 yards away. (It would be more like 150 yards distant). I would use 110 grain Soft Point ammunition. These, and a good 1911A1 would let me fight rather well.

I would definitely want to use what I did in the Marine Corp when I was in Beirut... I'f I couldn't get my hands on a M16...I would go with my M4 for several reasons.

I like the Carbine but I would never have traded my C8A3 or my C7A2 for my periodic work in an urban environment.

There are a multitude of reasons why I would stick with the AR15 platform, mainly due to the improvements offered by nearly 50 years of design evolution.

Ergonomics:

1. Adjustable length of pull, works with plated body armour, or making a shorter weapon as required, while still being accurate to shoot.

2. Thumb activated safety/FCS, this is the best design on any rifle I have used, and full auto is only 90 degrees away from Semi.

3. Magazine housing, allows changing magazines with a single gross motor skill of running it upwards into the rifle, no engaging magazine guides or fussy catches.
3a. Allows the user to maintain a strong hand on the pistol grip during a magazine change, including releasing the bolt catch with the weak hand.

4. Caliber, balance, bore alignment, all work together to make for a low recoil platform that is easily controlled on automatic, even for smaller or female shooters. Canada does not use .22 rimfire trainers any longer, the AR15 platform is easy enough to run that even new or timid shooters can master it quickly.

5. High velocity, steel cored, spitzer bullet service ammunition offers decent barrier penetration.

6. Better to hit someone with, the AR15's are thought to be fragile, but they are tough enough to be used in hand to hand, the M1 Carbine is a little to delicate to Babe Ruth someone with more than once.

Lots of reasons really, the M1 Carbine is a fine little rifle, and I am happy to have one, but it would never be my go to war rifle. Different technology from a different era simply put.

If I could choose any firearm, it would likely be some sort of pump action shotgun for urban combat, preferably one with no sear disconnect like a 1897 Trench gun. That or a SMG, doesn't really matter the type, just as long as it is reliable and moderately accurate.

For a side arm, I am quite fond of revolvers (provided they are in good shape, they work when you need them to), likely something like a good Webley Mk VI, with some speed loaders or my .357 Colt, with speed loaders, would be more than sufficient.

AR-15 for a lot of reasons but chief among those is ease of finding ammunition. I never owned one until relatively recently when I decided that if push came to shove, I wasn't likely to find ammo for the vast majority of my firearms. Add to that the ease of use, excellent accuracy at all but the longest ranges, ease of reloading, large magazines and familiarity from military service and it's a done deal. 45 Auto to back it up.

The .30 Carbine is logistically fine (when you have the proper supply lines). pouches on your field belt can hold both carbine and 1911 magazines with consummate aplomb.

If I can't kill them shooting through structural inadequacies, i'll be surprised.
