1941. Ski trooper
A ski trooper from the 15th Infantry Regiment poses in test equipment at Paradise on Mount Rainier in Pierce County, Washington. Those look like the winter gloves the Canadian Army is still issued.

The "Arctic Gauntlets" as they were, not a bad piece of kit, they had fleece on the backsides as "face warmers" but were more commonly served as snot wipers. The fold-down trigger guard on the C7 made it so you "could" shoot with with your dopey mitts on, but it would have been tricky not to have an ND.

I should imagine they would have been used in a static position as moving quickly through barbed wire entanglements and thick brush would have posed serious mobility issues let alone all the noise from scraping branches. Would have been a nightmare if you desperately wanted to have a tinkle, did the US have zippers or buttoned flys like the British.
