16-120 Garand Picture of the Day - 15th Infantry Regiment

    1941. Ski trooper
A ski trooper from the 15th Infantry Regiment poses in test equipment at Paradise on Mount Rainier in Pierce County, Washington. The soldier has a cartridge belt and holds a rifle and wears a loose fitting jump-suit with a hood, and booties tied with rope at the ankles. He stands in a snowy clearing. Trees and Mount Rainier summit are in the distance.

The "Arctic Gauntlets" as they were, not a bad piece of kit, they had fleece on the backsides as "face warmers" but were more commonly served as snot wipers. The fold-down trigger guard on the C7 made it so you "could" shoot with with your dopey mitts on, but it would have been tricky not to have an ND.

I should imagine they would have been used in a static position as moving quickly through barbed wire entanglements and thick brush would have posed serious mobility issues let alone all the noise from scraping branches. Would have been a nightmare if you desperately wanted to have a tinkle, did the US have zippers or buttoned flys like the Britishicon.
