The flamethrower is one weapon that I am glad I never had to face on the modern battlefield. I appreciate their effectiveness in clearing bunkers, and make no judgements about those that did use them, however of all the way people have tried to kill me, still I remain glad no one was trying to set me on fire from a distance.

My dad was on Biak Island in a 90mm AAA battalion. After the island was declared secure they were detailed to kill the Japanese that were holding out in the numerous caves. He said they used explosives, barrels of aviation fuel, small arms and flamethrowers. He didn't talk a lot about it but he certainly believed it was the right thing to do.
