An interesting recent acquisition of mine. A Cruciform No4 Mk1 spike bayonet relic found in Normandy. Attached are some pictures.

Just make sure that you check what you can see or make out carefully against the the books. Because others Mk1 spikes like this have been offered for sale in the trade.

Is there any trace of markings on the blade at all? check the tip profile as it is an obvious problem with fakes

Tip profile looks good to me. I'd check the length.

Seems devoid of any markings, partial or otherwise, which is unusual. In my experience pitting is one thing but some original facing material usually remains (as appears to be the case in these photos) but no markings whatsoever.

I suppose you can never be 100% from pictures alone but from what I can see in the pics I'd be inclined to say it's fine. The tip looks to be ok, the front face of the socket looks correct for an early No.4 spike (it's a more rounded profile and they then changed to a more right angled profile sometime in early 1941) and the lack of markings wouldn't surprise me as the Singer markings on the MK1 Spike and on the early MKII spike which used the earlier type of marking never seemed that deepiy struck and by the time you've got 70 or so years of corrosion on it I guess they could well of all but disappeared?

Yes, those Singer markings aren't going to survive that. Now if other markings were found, that would be different. If the spike isn't cut short, it's probably legit.
