    Lewis gun reciver lettering

    Hi Guys

I was hoping someone out there can help with obtaining the correct size/fonts of the lettering that is engraved on top of the reciever on a ww1 Lewis gun. This is the full manufacturing details etc.. Bearing in mind prices for deactivated examples are reaching the stratophere and what with the threat of new EU laws (concerning whats acceptable as a safe Deac) a good friend of mine commissioned a rather talented engineer chap to make an externally exact metal replica using original schematics. This is for re enactment/educational purposes and I guess because he did not want to pay between £4 - £5k for a genuine one only for it to be chopped and welded over beyond recognition if the new EU Bill is passed.

I have had the opportunity to look over the replica and although section weapons are not my thing, it is absoloutely spot on apart from the fact it is minus all the relevant engravings.

My friend being the rivet counter he is, he wants the replica fully engraved exactly like the original to complete the overall effect.

So if anyone could help me with this I can pass on the info to someone who is more than capable of replicating it exactly.

    Hope you can help
    Many thanks

    Mac

You'd better remind him that once he's finished this lifelike replica, he must paint the front end pink so that it doesn't confuse anyone! Just joking.......... Or am I?

What a sad indictment of UKicon legislators......... I'd like to blame the EU (Europe.....) but this time they're not to blame. It really does beggar belief! Gary, If someone told you at a US gunshow that this is the state of play in the UK, with what is in effect a toy, you'd never believe them!

I think this bill passing will probably do one or both things.. Companies who provide deactivated weapons to the re enactment/ Living History enthusiasts will be hit hard if this bill is passed possibly, forcing a lot of associated businesses out of business. The Re enactor may not be as keen to spend their hard earned on a item which now is only as good as a paperweight. Although it's not my thing I do have many mates who collect deac Weapons and all the paraphernalia.. some of these are very much into the Living History scene.

Currently guns deactivated to uk spec.. ie receivers cut underneath, breech pegged and welded, barrell cut by milling out the underneath and a hardened steel rod inserted will no longer be deemed as an acceptable form of deactivation.

Which means in addtion to this the bolt and magazine housings will now have to be completely welded up. You will no longer be able dry cycle Tthe bolt or be able to field strip the weapon which I guess for the re enactor takes away some of the authenticity of their portrayal and some of the ability to educate joe public.

I guess there is as many fox's as against with this.
