And how are you spending your Memorial Day weekend?

On Saturday, I decided to take one of my favorite military rifles to the range to dust off the cobwebs. It's a No. 4 Mk. 2, UF 55 A17XX, which I understand was an Air Force contract that went almost immediately into cosmolineicon. At any rate, mine looks virtually new and is the best fit and finished LE I've ever seen, just a bit better than the Irish Contract guns I've had in the past. Shooting was done at 100 yards from the bench, left hand under and gripping the forearm, back of hand resting on bag, no bag at rear, both elbows on the bench. In the first group I'm using my reloads: 174 SMK, 45 grains IMR4350, new R-P case, 3.075" OAL. In the second, I'm using the new match load from Hornady, using their 174 grain match bullet. While a tad more accurate, the Hornady load shoots 2.5" lower than the handload at 100 yards.

Shooting conditions were very bright with the sun over my right shoulder, and no wind. Still learning how light affects shot placement. Quite a lot I think.
