Excellent article on reforming brass to 7,62x45mm, years ago there was a wildcat 22 based on the 7,62x45mm case. I often thought that if you found
one of these rifles with a bad bore, why not attempt to rebarrel to the Soviet 5,45x39mm

Wow, it really cleaned up nice! Another option is a x39mm chamber insert but I decided to pass on that idea, mainly because they are held in by Loctite, so once the receiver heats up they are prone to ejecting with a spent shell. I'd imagine lacquered shells and case necks compound this issue.

I will be stubborn and keep it in the original caliber. I saw the chamber insert but I'm not all that comfortable with them either. Worst case scenario I can get a couple of brass boxer primed boxes from Buffalo Arms, $50 a box so sort of last resort. I don't need to shoot it but this is admittedly one that looks like a blast to shoot. I was told Saturday that the ammo is available at the Allentown show at least. Hopefully the same guy will be at Oaks or Harrisburg.

Got 140 rounds today at Harrisburg, so I'm set. A bit over 50 cents a round so not terrible.
