1903 rear sight disassembly
How do you remove the little pin on a 1903 slide. I cannot find a punch that small. Are there detailed instruction anywhere on how to completely disassemble the sight assembly?
Thanks

You might want to buy TM 9-1270 Manual on US Rifles, Cal 30, M1903, M1903A1, M1903A3 and M1903A4 Ordnance Maintenance, you can also buy reprints.
The small pin A130008 requires a small hard punch

I cut a sewing needle, ground it off and held it in pliers while using a small brass hammer to drive out that pin, worked OK for me.

That's what I've done too. I drive the pin from the bottom or back side of the sight ladder because the top end of the pin seems larger to my eyes. Anyway, it holds well when it goes back in from the top.

The sewing needle trick works fine. Thanks for the idea. Getting a copy of TM-9-1270 was a great idea. I had no idea it was out there and it helped tremendously not only with the rear sight but other sub-assemblies. Great investment for the $5 it cost me.
