    Duelling British Officers

See what happens when Defence cuts take away the duelling pistols from two officers who have a gripe with one another and leave them with no alternative:

Fired flares at one another whilst in their Kayaks in the mess pool.............where the water was used later by the Fire Service to put the fire out, becuase the fire hydrants had been turned off due to a Legionaires Disease scare. You couldn't make it up could you?
They will wonder later in their career why they are still one pippers I'm sure

    Merle,
They will, its great to see two Tankies enjoying themselves and also great to see humour in the Britishicon Army isn't dead. Did a lot worse than that, as I am sure many more have too. As always got slightly out of hand!!

I was only a lowly enlisted sailor, but I got away with a lot of "tricks" and all was forgiven, until I caused the ship to go to General Quarters because of an incoming Styx missile, which wasn't true. Times were touchy in the Tonkin Gulf back then!!!

That's been done. At one point it was a display #5 that was fired, one round of tracer off into the darkness towards a marker buoy...

Another time was a 577/450 round and the rifle to match, yes it fired...and struck a Wosley helmet at the other end of the mess.
    Regards, Jim

Vietnam, circa summer 1968. Two US Army Warrant Officer pilots in II Corps who were having a quick draw contest with their issue revolvers in their aircraft's revetment before the day's flying who ended up shooting each other by accident.

Like all of us then: young, stupid, testosterone-driven and not really 'bullet proof'.

There was a case in Afghanistan, where two Canadianicon soldiers were playing quick draw with there Browning Hi-Powers. Unfortunately one forgot to clear his pistol and it killed the other.

The worst part for the guy who lived was it has his best buddy who died. They grew up together, went to school together, joined the Army together and served overseas together. I wouldn't wish that type of guilt on my worst enemy.

No brains there i hate to say. I always was taught the No1 firearms safety rule is never point a gun at something you don't want to shoot, let alone loaded. Compounding the matter is them two would have been very well trained.
