    M1 Reload with IMR4166

FYI & Fwiw I've recently tried & had very good success with 30-06 reloads for the M1icon (&03A3) using IMR4166 powder. Looks like 47.0 gr with 155 Amax in HXP63 & 71 cases is a winner in both rifles. 5 round groups from the M1 off the bags at 100 yds are typically 1.3"" on SR1 target (5 rounds of 5 with best group at 1" and worst at 1.6"; no wind, no sun). Good performance on target and cleaning is super easy........minimal copper & fouling after 50 rounds. I was using Imr4895 & 4064 but I'm moving to 4166 for 150 & 155 gr loads. Have not tried 168gr Amax yet but will report when they get fired. As always with reloads work up, be careful, and of course YMMV

I've had good results with lots of different powders. Problem is most people will burn you in effigy for not using IMR 4895...fact is I've used everything, factory soft point...all types. We didn't know the difference before the internet and we didn't even hear about anything breaking or exploding... Show us a couple targets if you get the chance?
    Regards, Jim

Agree wrt having good luck with "non-traditional" components. As we all know reloading to obtain military M1icon or M2 or Mx ball/AP performance using historical-type components is great stuff as is trying different things to tailor loads for accuracy, recoil, cost etc.. The experimentation is fun. The IMR Enduron powder line looks to offer good performance (at least 4166 does) with easy cleaning. Also performance over temperature is advertised as being more consistent.
I'm away from home for work this week but will post target this weekend.
