    Sten "T" stock repair

I picked up this Sten stock recently from a well known internet auction site at a discounted price because the key which fits into the rear of the trigger housing had broken off. The vendor stated that they had purchased it from a market stall in Franceicon and so it could be ex Resistance but probably isn't.

I thought that members maybe interested in seeing how I went about making a repair to the stock. The "key" is basically a stepped button, turned on a lathe with flats machined on the sides. These flats could be filed if a milling machine isn't available. The key is held in place by a tapered pin of 1 degree total taper (this angle seemed to be ok to me). There is some doubt as to whether or not the rear of the pin was also intentionally held in place by weld as well when the tube was welded on the plate at the other side. I suspect that it was but I am not certain because the stub of the old pin was only marginally held in place by weld. I did not have much trouble removing the stub once the side pin had been extracted. For the time being I'm not attempting to weld the rear of the pin in place out of simplicity and it is only a deactivated Sten. This may have to be revisited at a later date and the rear of the pin welded.

Thanks for the I.T. advice, CINDERS, which I had to modify slightly for an Apple laptop but pictures are in correct order now.

I find the illustrated "how to's " invaluable.

Quite often they approach the problem from an angle I didn't see...

U K ~ When you up load your pics they sit on the bottom bar all with ticks before you hit the attach button put the mouse pointer on the picture you wish to move Rt mouse button press & hold then move the picture along the bar to the desired spot then release the mouse button. The same goes if your adding pics to an existing set.
When you open your post go Edit - Go Advanced - Manage Attachments - Up load the pics you wish to add, then what you will be presented with is the pics on the bar plus your add ins what you have to do is tick the little box bottom Rt in the already posted pics so all the pics on the bar are ticked then you can sequence them then hit attach - all done or you can preview post to see how it looks.

Good job Flying 10. I have done similar myself. But simply filed a lug up from a lump of scrap metal. Then riveted in Place. As like yours,
It was only for a Deact, it didn't need to be machined up. & was completed in an Hour on the bench!

Good workmanship young Man, Nice job!

The side pin used by other stock manufacturers, assuming all had a side pin, don't all have heads to them and so are not necessarily visible on other "T" stocks.

To be honest, I've never noticed the side pin on one before. Seems like a lot of wasted machine tool time and material when you're already going to weld the 'hand plate' in from behind. While you're at it, just weld the rear of the stop button too! After all, the button will already be jig held to stop it rotating. The pin will also weaken the stop button shank too. Anyone else got a retaining pin visible
