Er....... Is it an age thing, but who is this Guy Sajer bloke? What's he got to do with a No32 telescope or indeed a recently found Garand. Did he loose the telescope or what? Did he loose a Garand in France. Did he loose a Garand fitted with a No32....... or what?
There's going off at tangents and then there's going of at another orbit! Or have I lost the plot here. Anyone else totally bambooooozled?

Actually I remember there being a bit of controversy about ex members of Grossdeutscland not knowing him or the events described.

Ah, that does happen with the odd old soldier I've heard. When the stories run out it's no doubt tempting to keep the adulation coming with a little embroidery.

Don't think so Mike, Most foreign members were in legions, although the 5th Panzer Division was mainly Scandinavians.
