    Thanks Peter
That's interesting to know, it's starting to come alive now.
Will do some more research on it now.
    Cheers for all your comments.

Er....... Is it an age thing, but who is this Guy Sajer bloke? What's he got to do with a No32 telescope or indeed a recently found Garandicon. Did he loose the telescope or what? Did he loose a Garand in Franceicon. Did he loose a Garand fitted with a No32....... or what?

There's going off at tangents and then there's going of at another orbit! Or have I lost the plot here. Anyone else totally bambooooozled?

Actually I remember there being a bit of controversy about ex members of Grossdeutscland not knowing him or the events described.
    Still a good read.

No use repeating what I said in # 2 Peter hopefully something of the scopes history may come to light I do not know about the Aussie side of things, Ian Skennertonicon would probably have the best handle on these things unless some one has access the Armies WWII records to gain the information should be free of the secrets act by now! The Garandicon was just to highlight what strange things happen in life who would have thought it was under the floor boards just like this scope comes out of no where so where is the rest of the kit. Bit better chance of finding out about this No.32 than a WWII Garand in Franceicon unless they checked each serial when they dropped it to the resistance then again may have been a battle field pick up or just one that flew under the radar......

Ah, that does happen with the odd old soldier I've heard. When the stories run out it's no doubt tempting to keep the adulation coming with a little embroidery.

Or maybe they just forgot him?

“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.

Don't think so Mike, Most foreign members were in legions, although the 5th Panzer Division was mainly Scandinavians.
