So a few days ago i turned 45. As planned, on that day to commemorate my becoming an old man, i bought my very first .45ACP. I wanted an old war horse so i chose the Springfield Armory Mil Spec M1911A1.
Now i am learning about the design and history. I am fixing to order a. M3 an M7 an M1916 and a leather 1911 double mag leather mag holder with belt loop. I am ordering these items in brown from www.worldwarsupply.com .
I will be adding a lanyard as well. I would love to have vintage leather, but because my pistol is not vintage i am ok with repro. Also because i am left handed, im kinda stuck there anyway.
So could you guys check this out and let me know what you think about these selections? Thank you. MikieG

Actually, you aren't stuck at all except for the original look of right handed holsters...you see the very company you're looking at has left hand holsters. Holsters

Of course EVERYONE else produces lefties for consumption...

I take it that you intend to order the left hand version of the holster M1912, which in reality never existed as far as I know. My only thought about your selection of World War Supply is their prices seem very "reasonable" in the sense that to me the prices seem extraordinarily low for leather products. Now I know that a lot of this kind of material is being imported but even at that the prices are extraordinary. As a comparison I invite your attention to El Paso Saddlery - 1911 Holster (I have no investment in El Paso Saddlery, but have examined first hand a few of their replica M1912 holsters and they are quite good quality leather and workmanship). The most glaring problem with both of these companies replicas is the leg strap buckle is not correct. The original buckles were rectangular steel frame buckles, which it seems to me it couldn't be that hard to find a buckle closer to the originals. Even a nickle plated buckle closer in appearance would be more accurate than the oval brass buckle provided. If I obtained one of these holsters I would change the buckle, but I have to share with you that l have or have had all these items in the original.

The leather double magazine pocket offered by World War Supply is the type used by military police on a leather belt. The buckle on the "officers" leather belt (which is sort of a replica of the leather garrison belt M1912) offered is incorrect for officers (the officer buckle had a national emblem eagle design, not US). You didn't mention if you intend to obtain the belt but I thought I would provide that information gratis.

I have to say that it appears you can put together an attractive accessory set for your pistol at a reasonable cost, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

I have to agree that El Paso Saddlery is of a much higher standard...as stated. I was only referring to the company you have already dealt with and showing you their product. I'd rather have original too, but El Paso is built as well as original.

I plan to attatch this to my VietNam era eeb gear and actually use it. I am not a reenactor or historian so exact is not quite as important. Just something i use when i get my "M16" A1 out. I have correct Bianchi equiped web gear for my "M16" A2 rig. Just never had a 1911 and wanted the right stuff for it.
The next 1911 will be ultra modern tactical super bling ambi with appropriate gear to support it. I just really wanted to start my journey with this design at the beginning before getting spoiled with modern stuff. Kinda like starting out with the M16A1 before getting a Sig 516.
I know.... Mikie is weird.
I made my son shoot iron sighted from 5-10 years of age before i ever let him look thru a scope and 14 before firing a pistol.
Today he is a better shooter and has a full understanding and appreciation because of it. We miss so much valuable and rich experience by jumping right in with the state of the art stuff. This 1911 is a new journey for me. Hell, prolly an M1 and M1A to follow, who knows!

Today i picked up a USGI mainspring housing with lanyard loop. The one that came with my pistol had that gay lock device in it. Horrible i tell ya. Over all i am very happy with this pistol.
