Hi Nigel, sorry for the pics, I forgot that the English version was different to the Aust one.

From memory, the deep section, top to bottom was about 5" and it was approx 1.75" wide. So from the pictures you could effectively scale those measurements up and come up with a good working replica. It was symmetrical end to end too. Top of the working end was covered with a couple of layers of hide.

If you look hard, you can see some tools as well which is a bit of a guide.

“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.

    Pic 2.

    A Madsen?

Where and when was that photo taken?

Netherlands East Indies forces had them in 6.5 x 53R. Quite a lot were reluctantly transferred to Japaneseicon use and here we have what is probably an Australianicon workshop in the field, having one on their bench.

The other gun in the foreground of that shot has a whiff of "Vickers" about it?

    Any advances?

In the Field; Arte et Marte! all the way!

    Speaking of "horses":

    And, "THE Corps":

We in Oz were (and probably still are) sometimes called the "Royal Australianicon Easy Money Earners"; a little unkind, I always thought.

However, the "global brotherhood" DOES have a sense of humour:
