Workshop port...? Was it aged in casks behind the paint shop? Are you guys into something besides refurbish and maintenance?

Considering the collective knowledge and skills, as well as the equipment and materials "available", it would be surprising if a few "fermentation / distillation devices" have NOT been constructed over the years in various sheds and large vehicles.

Hi mate, I have a few ports still maturing (or should I say fermenting) in the bottles. I managed to score a class port bottle at a local antique store the other year, still not happy that i never got one when I should have when offered. Will never forget the good old days in the Sgts Mess after the formal dinners and finishing off on the port. You could gauge how good the night was with the amount of port stains left on your white mess jacket the next day.

Well she did leave one...........there were 11 in this set, one from each workshop, this was the last of the run, the year before I pulled the pin after 26 years.

No, I was just wondering if it may have been a Dutch / KNIL Vickers from the 1920s, chambered in 7.92 x 57R. This appears to be a peculiarly Dutch round.

I don't have much info on the guns or the ammo, so I am just chucking it out there.

The Dutch acquired a swag of Model 12 Vickers guns just after WW1. These were bog-standard .303 jobs.

In the mid-1930s, it seems that somebody wanted a bit more "oomf" and a batch was re-bored and otherwise modified to handle the 7.92mm RIMMED cartridge.

As near as I can make out, this cartridge dates back to the adoption of the Schwarzlose in 1908. This gun is much the same as the Austrian 07/12 Model.

Anybody got any advances?

I see...relating it to the Madsen...so if there's one there may be more. Hard to say, but it would have been neat to poke around this workshop and see what else is there...
