Savage made a run of 1928 tsmg around 1939. They were made with a lot of m1921 parts. I have one that came from the Halifax Nova Scotia Police. Then Auto Ordnance started production.
I think they made about 10000. They were bought by Commonwealth Countries and the Canadian Military for the prison guards at the POW camps containing Germans.

I think mine was a vet bring back from Italy...and was up in Campbell River or some such for about three decades... That manufacture date makes sense.

The adjustable rear sight made me think pre WW2; my deactivated 1928 Thompson has a fixed rear sight and I think is of WW2 production.

I've got a rather interesting AO 1928, it's an early one I think with a 5 digit number. It's seen British service I think as it has the usual mods but I can't find a weeding Mark (could be under the black paint. The interesting thing is that it has an M1 lower modified to accept the 28 butt. It looks very well done so I believe it's been done by professional armourers rather an amateur or 3rd rate army.

You could but that slide-on section of the 1928 type Thompson TMH during the mid 80's. There was some legal/technical reason for its manufacture all to do with buying the gun as a pistol and............... anyway, least said, soonest mended!

Sort of depends on early V/S late as to what sight and markings on the Cutts...paddles V/S stick selector and rocker pivot controls... Later they got cheap. Also finned V/S solid barrels. You could get a mix too.

In my collection of 1928s, it seems by comparing serial numbers. Auto Ordnance might have had a bigger supply
of early parts to use up than Savage. Savage mixed them up , early and late.

Sort of what I mean. When I was in Cyprus after the war in '74, early '75 saw the Turk/Cyp fighters and paras carrying Thompsons. M1/28/A1 and every possible mark, make and model. They had every feature including a Turk made copy with a brass upper receiver. I know, I had it in my hands...

There is an Aluminum upper and lower receiver complete made by Savage model 1928 here in Canada somewhere.
Everything else is normal. The story is it was sent to the Canadian Purchase Commission to promote it for Commonwealth
sales in 1939.

Yes, those are in the book. There's nothing about Brass however, until i brought it up to another old soldier that told me they were made in Turkey, which made sense. The markings were exactly correct...
