Very cool, I have never heard of trials rifles from the mid 30's what exactly where the Soviets trialing? Just a detachable bayonet with a slightly different barrel band pattern? Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated (I have read two books on Mosins, however this was never mentioned).

There is not a lot of info out on them except that they where made in 1936 and onlty Tula made them. All Trials rifles have a S/N that starts with the number "0" and there are at least 3 ( maybe as many as 5) variations of them ( mostly dealing with sights). Simonov was only one of several designers that submitted designs.
