"French"-"Broken" Sten Stocks

A VERY easy fix, & a good price if they are actually genuine?.........

Anyone interested in a Canadian Looped stock, that used to belong to King George VI. Who got it from an Arms dealer who obtained it from A French Underground Surplus Agent. Who sourced it from Harold Turpin, who used it as a bench test piece for production trials at Enfield. Where he managed to also source very scarce 'Special Steel' that was used to make Unique Coat rack hooks. For the Queen Mum as a Royal favour...........

One of the dealers selling these on deacs was declaring them as such so it must have been subsequent dealers who were hiding the truth. I have one and after a half hour of sanding edges and generally ageing it, I think no one would know. I believe these butless guns are Ex Finn guns that came out of Africa.

It's possible that if these are coming out of France then they may be French or Belgian 50s manufacture where the factory simple missed the step on a batch. I've seen it before where a batch of an item have missed a machining step and most of the time it's not financially viable to go back and repair.

I got it from a different dealer to the one who did the deac but I'm not going to name either dealer. They are good quality reproductions but it shouldn't have been sold as genuine if it was known to be fake.

Looked at the ebay listing... 35 pounds for a stock needing a repair? Ouch!

It's either that or go without Tiriaq! I don't know why this thread has filled 3 pages to be honest! 15mts work and you've got yourself a good Sten butt regardless of whether it's a fake. To be honest, having seen a few, it looks from the photos like it's a good fake from the abysmal welding of the shoulder piece to the strut. Mind you, the abutment plate to strut and hand piece looks OK.

I still have the "T" stock which is known to be a fake/reproduction because of the laser cut parts on it and I could post a few pictures of it, for comparison, if anyone is interested? It may be a few days because (unfortunately) I have to go back to work tomorrow.

Here are some pictures of what I believe to be a perfectly good quality reproduction Sten stock. The one "give-away" that it is reproduction are the few remaining Laser Beam "witness" marks, that haven't been ground off, because unless anyone knows differently I don't believe Laser cutting machines existed during WW2. I have pointed out some of the Laser marks with the pen tip.

The only issue here is that when I purchased the U.K. deactivated Sten that this stock was attached to I stated that I did not want a reproduction stock and I was told that it was original. As previously stated the dealer who I purchased it from was not the dealer who carried out the deactivation work but I am not prepared to name either dealer.

There appears to have also been a certain amount of Patina/age/wear accelerated enhancement work carried out on this item. (Rubbed over with sand-paper)

Looks more like one of the horrible wartime productions to me. Great gobs of weld and no frills production. I've seen worse...
