    New Canadian Ranger rifle

Finally after much conjecture and speculation and many people saying "I know for sure"...Ottawa has posted the new choice of the Ranger replacement for the #4 rifles. I've known for some time because of inside sources, as have some others here. Please don't line up for your #4 rifles collectors, I'll bet the CDN Gov't will torch them and gashbin the parts.

The new rifle is available to us plebs at $2,695.00 plus tax and shipping which takes stupid to a new level. With tax, shipping and insurance it will be close to $3,100.00 wouldn't buy it at half that price.

It looks pretty but that's where it ends.

    Just my 2 cents.

I would like to buy a No4 but know the chances of our gov't selling them are "slim and fat".
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

Call me old fashioned, but I would rather keep my No4 if I was a Ranger Jim!

The govt could make a bit of money selling the 4's as they are sought after just check the prices over here a govt making a few $'s for nothing may get them interested plus there may be some sleepers in the mix.
A sad demise if they torch them and bin'em.

Did Ruger submit a stainless "Scout" job to the trials?

Made "next door" for a fraction of the price of the Tikka, even if the dollar figure includes a "ten year parts warranty".

All gun-oil down the bore now, I guess.

I was looking at that Bruce and seems an uncanny resemblance to the Ruger Scout but with no doubt the 20% changes so as not to infringe copyrights.

My thoughts too, (it would seem on the surface at least) that a Ruger Scout variant would be a perfect replacement for the Ranger No4 and procured at a cost that wouldn't break the bank. I guess its the usual procurement procedure, where a replacement rifle is requested, then politicians and the civil service get involved and make the whole process as time consuming, painful and expensive as possible to justify their paper shuffling, shiny arse jobs...

I would have thought that there are enough No4's to keep the Rangers going for the next 200 years. A very large batch of LB's were shipped to the UKicon a few years ago and the whole lot deactivated

I had a chance to see a few of these at an arms fair last year and they appeared to have had very little use indeed, going by the general condition, the crown and the bolt resistance on closing.

Ammo is also no issue, with suppliers still manufacturing .303 and no sign of that changing for the foreseeable future.

So, is this more to do with the weight etc and perhaps some official embarrassment of using a 70 year old rifle??
