Dave McClain states the following in his article "IHC Receiver Variations" found in the Spring 2009 GCA Journal: " The photos above and below show an ordinary IHC produced receiver, common to both the 4 million range and the 5 million serial blocks. They have the typical large radius on both sides of the receiver heel, the IHC drawing numbers IHCD6528291 (early use) or D6528291 with heat lot letter at end of drawing number on one line. All heat lots from A through Z have been seen." One of the referenced photos shows D6528291 - R

Thanks Joe. That's the info I was wanting.
The stock is most definitely a replacement. Several dealers (yes, they are in business to make money) at the Louisville show said a IHC stock will run $500-600. At this point I guess I'll be satisfied with what I've got. Maybe a stock will show up some day at a decent price.
As of now every part (that's identifiable) is IHC and correct for the serial range except the op rod. Its a 65...IHC.
Thanks to all that responded. I'm just glad I could bring this one back "home" to Evansville.

I am not sure what the "correct" stock would currently sell for. I was in the same situation as you. I had received a nice, very close to correct, IHC from DCM in 1984. It too had a replacement stock. About 10 years ago, I finally purchased a 1954 dated stock for about $300.00. They were hard to come by at that time. Even now, while there are many more IHC rifles with correct stocks around I suspect not many loose stocks for sale. I was not very happy with the stock i settled for and have since returned the replacement stock to the rifle. Not only do you need to find a proper stock, you have the added problem of trying to find one that will match the rifles wear. Keep looking but don't settle for anything less than what is totally right for your rifle.

I have an IHC in the 4.458 million s/n range and it has the IHC prefix. The "F" is the heat lot number for the steel batch the receiver was made from. The D65..........is the drawing, or part number. The "D" denotes the physical size of the drawing used in manufacturing.
