Apparently they don't get hot enough to cause fires...so the story goes. So, no stories about fires caused.

I found a small dehumidifier at Home Depot that I like. It is about 8-10 inches high and collects about a cup of water at a time. I like this better than just making warm humid air. You do have to empty it about once a week, but that is not hard. Mine has been working for about 2 years now. It does have automatic shut-off when full.

Is there anything against silica gel as I have a couple of small bags in my safes and oven dry them carefully every 3-4 weeks.

I never needed anything, even when in the east coast of Canadaicon where the humidity was huge. I just oiled my hardware and carried on.

I'm 15 miles off the Gulf Coast and never use anything in my safe. Our house always runs between 45% & 55% RH...
