Here is my best find of the past year as far as arisakas are concerned. A long time local collector whom I befriended several years ago just started to thin down his vast collection to focus on finishing certain countries (for the most part he has one variant of every rifle, carbine, and handgun a country has ever made in its history). Now he's begun to finish his French collection and his Greek collection as those two countries are special to him because of his heritage. Anyway as a sign of good will he gave me 8 arisakas of varying condition and caliber, this one being the top dog. It is a series 23 Kokura that is all matching and mummed. He had purchased it during his big arisaka phase about twenty years ago from a local gun store (in fact all of the arisakas he gave me were local finds) but it was missing an original sling, which I never thought I would come into. Flash forward to a couple of weeks ago when another collector I know told me he had an original arisaka sling he was willing to part with and that we could work out a trade. So as a part of a trade/sell of one of my other arisakas that was a little worse for wear I ended up with this sling. It was supple in the middle by the buckle, making it easy to remove it but in order to take off the remnants of the old sling swivels that were on it I used a hair dryer to make the ends of the sling supple enough to remove the old swivels and attach the sling to this rifle. It even has some writing along the inside of the sling. Now I have a 100% original rifle that I've always dreamed of owning and the best part is I have no money in the entire set up. Hope you all enjoy this rifle as much as I do.
