A nice live rifle with what appears to be genuine history.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Lancing College seems to be alive and well. Presumably they decided they didn't need that memorial anymore, which is a bit sad, but unless they locked it away it in a safe they'd probably have to deactivate it for display. Tough call that.

Has anyone ever heard of a rifle being donated as a memorial to a soldier killed on active service before? I've heard of hospitals which were built, following WW1, to commemorate lost soldiers and I believe that many of the war memorials which were erected in almost every city, town and village during the 1920s were often paid for by public donations but I think this is the first time that I've ever heard of a rifle being donated.
