Was pretty much my meaning. Yes, the butt has that flake grain of beech.

Front and mid bands are unmarked cheap replacements cause there sheet metal and very flexible the rear sight from what my search come up with is the Mk2? sight with 300 and 600 meters marked on them front sight and protector are stamped sm as well as the magazine. Brass butt plate has a very small stamping on it but cant make it out and the trigger guard has sm stamped on it as well.

You could search through the forum to old threads and you'll find some on this very rifle. Some of these are original and the sight is very different, machined and long...

So, the bolt matches. Like I say, the other stuff can be had slowly and possibly through a WTB here...at least we know what you need.

to be fair all i would need from the sounds of the wealth of info you gents provided is front and mid bands, rear hand guard will have to look closely at the front one but putting it under good lighting the rear hand guard has different grain patterns then the rest of the rifle. and find a butt plate that fits better but other wise the enfield look very nice and clean plus put a different rear sight on it but would need to figure out what sight to use for it and what rear guard to use grooved or non. plus the bolt barrel and reciver do have the same S/N but for only $600 us i dont think it too bad.

Why change anything. That rifle more than likely left service as is. Changing the rear sight for range use may mean the front blade has to be changed as well. Different P O A. Service correct is correct.

EXACTLY.......... Listen to Bindi Spaz86. The rifle is exactly as it left UKicon service many years ago. Those odd parts people talk about and all this '......take it back to original....' stuff is a bit nonsensical. It was only original once and it ain't never going to be original again, just like my restored Mini Cooper ain't original again.

And for the zillionth time on this forum, let me say - again - here's something else, straight from the horses mouth. In all my years as a real Armourer, I NEVER, ever, never recall hearing another Armourer searching through bins and trays and boxes of parts trying to find all the same manufacturer. It might have happened but I was off sick that day! And another thing. Maltby, where your rifle was made made the major parts but their rifles were assembled using parts made throughout the whole of the UK. We assembled the rifle to the current specification then test fired it. And if it passed EVERY check and test, off it went.

Just leave the bloody thing alone. If it's not broke, don't fix it! Let me see the butt plate and I'll tell you whether it fits
