    Beating California's Tough Gun Laws

My wife and I finally had enough so we packed up our "Stuff" and emigrated to America. We will leave others to enjoy the Utopia of California.

Our new digs are in Nevada and it's like waking up on vacation every day.

The local range is $2 all day and you can back your vehicle up to your shooting station. They have a pistol and rifle range with targets to 300 yards. There are some strict rules, see #3 Below:

Now that all my toys are in Nevada do I have to deregister them in California? All my weapons purchased as a FFL-03 are registered with the CA DOJ and of course the guns I purchased through a FFL-01 were run through the DROS system.

Congratulations. They wanted you to leave, too. When they are bleeding so much red, they will put on an exit tax like New Jersey has.

We got out ahead of exit tax idea, however we are probably facing a 10% California Capital Gains tax from the sale of our house.

And then slam the door to make sure they never come back.

"Much of the folklore surrounds the 'exit' of New Jersey residents retiring to states with lower or no state income tax," Fusillo said. "The exit tax is not an additional tax, a special tax or even a new tax, but merely a prepayment of the tax owed on the sale of real property by non-residents."

Fusillo said the tax is really just an estimated tax payment required at the time of a real estate closing to prevent non-residents from evading tax on the sale of second properties or investment homes.

Congrats! I left the "Empire" state for the great state of TX in 1975 and never looked back. That was before I had a clue, but it all worked out...

Love the bullet holes in the sign...seeing the mountains, I know about where you settled in relation to where you were. Just enough to be clear. Yes, Cali is nice but enough would be enough. Lots of us think about it too...believe me.
