    Odd Martini Enfield? Carbine

Something seen recently at a friend's place:

Looks like a basic ME carbine, but is VERY unlikely to be made in Englandicon.

The timber is anything but walnut and is not a good fit,

There is a brass butt-plate that resembles a SMLE item, but minus the trap.

Bore looks clean, left-hand twist, but it seems to have seven lands, Metford-style, rather than five.

The cocking indicator is definitely "after-market"!

The steel butt disc is slightly oddly placed and bears the markings, "VVI"? and another symbol like a stylized "T".

The Knox form bears a large "B" on the rear top flat, but there is a completely alien (to me); (Pashtun? Farsi?)...) script just forward of that

The breech block is a rather loose fit in the body.

It chambers and ejects a standard .303 drill / dummy just fine.

Neither the owner nor I are keen to touch off Mk7 ball in it, however.

    Pix to follow soon.

Maybe Mahogony? Sounds like Khyber pass to me too. Maybe some pics? I wouldn't shoot it either if in doubt.

Yours is a perfect description of a bunch of factory made knock offs coming out of Pakistan into North America over the past decade or so. I'm surprised that they might have also invaded OZ, but who knows. A few came into our hands a while back and were remote fired until failure, which took about 10 rounds to stretch the receiver to the point where the headspace was so great that the web of the MK VII cases blew out.
