Jim did not examine the inside of the scabbard but he did pay attention to what I stated it was. Now to end this, there was zero rust inhibiting paper or any paper of any type inside the scabbard. There was canvas fiber thread and canvas fibers consistent with the interior sewn ends of the fabric fraying loose with the repeated movement of the blade being inserted and removed.

I have a 1945 TrueTemper machete that is missing its scabbard and the plastic grip is cracked and a piece missing. My father "borrowed" it when we were stationed in Panama in 1958. I would like to restore it and get a scabbard. Anyone have any ideas for me to try.

If it's like the one above...unless you can find a donor, that is complete machete with perhaps a worse blade or one you can salvage parts from...? Maybe searching online for something that's been parted out.

Correct scabbard is probably the plastic one. They come up for sale occasionally you just need to verify date. Rivets would be tough I would think

Plastic? Like the RVN issue? Here's my other one, bought it when I was a kid from the local FW Woolworth and it came in a .30 cal spare barrel case. The scabbard I borrowed from quartermaster in 1976 and failed to return...now outstanding...

I don't know that it's plastic but it is not as hard as the green bayonet scabbards. Its green and plastic like. If you do a search for this machete photos will show up with it. I couldn't find mine last night.

How about making a pair of wood grips if you can't find the correct plastic ones?

That's the one I have. It's also dated 1945. I still haven't found it but found a photo I took of it. It has an Ontario machete in it now wherever it is. Looks like the True Temper with the exception the handles are black.

The scabbard I have is also the same but dated later of course...the later types were harder and had drainage holes. Mine is a Vis and the one pictured is a Victory Plastics. We had lots of the Ontario blades.
